A day which had seen its share of dark clouds and rain in the first game, broke into sunshine and cotton clouds for the second as the gentlemen of the Mountain City Vintage Base Ball Club welcomed the fine ballists of the Franklin Farriers to the Polo Grounds in Ft. Oglethorpe Saturday.
Substituting as Captain in the absence of their leader Wings, Mighty Bandit got the host club on the board first with a two run single through the left side. It was but an opening salvo in what turned out to be a long day for the Farriers, with the Mountain City club claiming a decisive 23-0 victory. Led by great defense, all hands on the club contributed to posting their second shutout of the young season to move to a record of 5 victories against 0 defeats. Mountain City has allowed a stingy total of only 8 aces on the season so far.
At the dish, the Mountain City men were led by; Sweet Feet with 6 aces knocked in, and Britches and Obee getting 7 and 6 hits respectively in the same number of chances at the bat. The club also posted back to back innings of 6 aces tallied, turning the match into a rout. Assisting Mighty Bandit with the captain’s duties in Wings’ absence, Taco asked to award the game ball and shared it between Bandit and Sweet in honor of their father/grandfather who passed the week before. Bandit and Sweet would also like to share the honor with Wings, who lost his grandfather earlier in the week.
